The wasted potential on display in the 50 Shades trilogy is enormous. Where was the beauty? Where was the eroticism? Two great leads and those passionless films are what we were given?! The novels, I assume, are rubbish, and the scripts were what they were, but the real problem is that the sexual imagery of the films lacked eroticism in all but a few moments. In the unrated cut of the first film, it's especially egregious. So much topless nudity from Dakota, but the director failed time and again to make those scenes sing.
