She was born in Glendora, California, in the family of Virgil Frye and talent search agent, Sondra Peluce Londy. Frye has two half-brothers, Sean Frye, and Meeno Peluce, which in childhood also were actors. Frye ‘s parents divorced when the girl was two years old.

Frye made her debut as an actress in the movie “Missing Children: A Mother’s Story” in 1982. At the age of 8 years, she starred in “Punky Brewster,” a sitcom aired on NBC and in syndication from 1984 to 1986.
